For more than two decades, Bob Stewart has been a steadfast champion of Tulsa CARES and a tireless advocate for those affected by HIV/AIDS. His journey began in the mid-1990s, when a simple request for a wine donation turned into a lifelong commitment. Moved by the cause and the people it served, Bob pledged his support “until there’s a cure”—a promise he has upheld with conviction and heart ever since.

In 1999, Bob joined the Tulsa CARES Board of Directors, stepping into leadership at a time when few were willing to publicly stand alongside the HIV/AIDS community. With courage, compassion, and characteristic wit, Bob helped the organization grow—not just financially, but in visibility, dignity, and strength. He was instrumental in shaping meaningful special events and championing support for some of the most vulnerable members of the Tulsa community.

Among the many moments of service that shaped his perspective, one stands out: seeing trays of donated bagels in the Tulsa CARES lobby, Bob joked about asking for something else next time. He was informed that the bagels were always leftover because many of the clients couldn't eat hard breads because of the state of their dental health. It was a simple but powerful moment that crystallized the realities the organization faced—and deepened Bob’s resolve to serve with empathy and purpose.

Bob’s generosity is inspired by the examples of Henry Zarrow and Lo Detrich—two community giants who taught him the power of giving without expecting anything in return. Outside of his service, Bob is known for his deep love of food and wine, his ever-growing collection of stylish men’s hats, and his unwavering love for the Tulsa community. Whether at a board meeting or a neighborhood gathering, Bob brings a unique perspective, and a touch of flair to everything he does.

We are thrilled to honor Bob Stewart at this year’s Red Ribbon Gala, a celebration as vibrant, thoughtful, and distinctive as he is. Join us for an unforgettable evening inspired by Bob’s signature style, generous spirit, and unwavering commitment to Tulsa CARES.
