I love red. And I love Tulsa CARES, the Center for AIDS Resources, Education and Support.
So ponder, por favor, how I feel about the Red Ribbon Gala, the center's largest fundraiser and one of the most stylish soirees of the year.
The ninth annual spectacular will take place at Southern Hills Country Club on March 11, with red cocktails, a stellar silent auction, and a raffle at 6:30 p.m., followed by a feast at 7:30 and a live auction about 9. And as if all that wasn't enough, Hero Factor will perform at 9:45.
Among the awesome silent auction items are a red Swarovski crystal rose pin from Miss Jackson's by designer Mindy Lam. Other must-bids include treats from Aberson's, Jara Herron, SR Hughes, Stephen Howard's KoaKoa, Appliance Gallery, and Ga-ga Go-go.
Other auction items include pieces by the fabulous Susan Sadler, a Tulsa CARES board member and amazing jewelry designer, who's donating pearl and diamond cufflinks, and tanzanite, diamond, and platinum earrings. The rings you see here are examples of her work.
FYI, those attending are encouraged to wear red, and I'm madly pondering the possibilities as you read this. I gotta have something to obsess about, after all.
Tickets are $150 per person—which is totally worth it, considering (1) Tulsa CARES rocks and (2) Pat Chernicky will no doubt be there in something jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Sponsorship packages and reservations for priority seating are available, as well.
For more info and to reserve your spot, call Bruce Lewis at 834-4194, ext. 10.
Don't go breakin' my heart next weekend by not bidding on me. It seems I'm up for auction, but it's all for a good cause. Booker T. Washington High School's "Gospel, Grits & Gershwin" fundraiser will take place 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Greenwood Cultural Center.
If you win me (please be gentle), we'll have lunch at Table Ten, followed by a shopping trip to Aberson's. Other great items up for bid include dinner and one-night's stay at the Ambassador, a Trek woman's bicycle with helmet, a spa day at Marilyn Ihloff, opera tickets, a blown-glass vase from MA Doran, and a basket of goodies from Wild Oats.
Admission is $40, which includes a delicious brunch and, of course, the auction. For more info, give the sweet Sheryl Chadd a call at 742-7662.
The third annual Visual Aid Art Show and Auction will be held 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Harwelden. This year's theme is "Fill Your Space. Fund Their Future," and is sponsored by the Tulsa Advertising Federation and the Art Directors Club of Tulsa. It's a fun showcase of many talented local artists, such as the scrumptious Susanne Barnard, owner of the Bead Merchant. She's donating a beautiful necklace with appetite, blue zircon, and an aquamarine pendant.
Another item not to miss is artist Nancy Hamill's sterling silver necklace with Oklahoma black slate and cultured white stick pearls, as well as sterling silver post earrings with Oklahoma black slate and cultured gray pearls.
Proceeds from the sale of the art go to student scholarship funds of the two sponsoring organizations. Art donations are still being taken, by the way. And if you're interested in donating a piece, kindly contact Tina Fincher at 645-2202 or email her at [email protected]. You can download a donation form at www.artdirectorsoftulsa.org.
Admission is $10 at the door, but donors get in free.
