Nationally renowned artist P.S. Gordon has a reputation for creative flair and rare talent, of course, but he also knows what it takes to make an event very successful in this town.
So when he says, "Tulsa C.A.R.E.S." annual Red Ribbon Gala beginning at 6:30 p.m. April 14 at Southern Hills Country Club will not disappoint, you can be sure that it is an understatement of some magnitude.
Gordon is chairman of the "Just Wear Red" evening that promises elegance, gourmet cuisine and unique silent and live auction items.
Live auction items include two push-pedal cars -- a Porsche and a Mercedes -- donated by Jackie Cooper Imports of Tulsa. Two similar items were very popular at last year's auction and are back by popular demand.
Also on the auction block are original artwork, trips and jewels. Remember that this is the party where in the past guests have bid thousands of dollars to have someone jump in the swimming pool, and even though this won't be a pool side party, you can be sure that some bidders will offer up a little tomfoolery.
Others helping coordinate the fund-raiser include chairman emeritus Charles Faudree and Tulsa C.A.R.E.S. board members Maricarolyn Swab, Mary Quinn Cooper and Suzanne Schreiber.
Tickets are $150 per person. Sponsorship levels begin at $500.
Proceeds from the gala will benefit the Tulsa Center for AIDS Resources Education and Support, a United Way agency that began in 1991. Sharon Thoele, the agency's executive director, said, "This event allows us to better serve the men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in northeastern Oklahoma. Without the dedication of our board members and generous donors, we could not provide the level of services we do."
Tulsa C.A.R.E.S. serves low-income people who are affected by HIV. The organization provides food, rent and utility assistance; group and individual counseling; and professional case management.
